My Launches
Pictures coming soon...
Wednesday 22nd May 2002 - Well, It seems I only update this site roughly once a year! I've just arrived back in the UK after spending five months in Chamonix, France, having spent my time snowboarding and mountain biking :) I'm currently not working as the market is dire :( But it's giving me time to brush the cobwebs of these pages and bring them upto date. I doubt I'll be flying any rockets this year, or getting to any launch events, but I'm still thinking about designs for tube launched rockets :)
Wednesday 12th January 2000 - I ordered a PML Tempest before christmas which arrived today. Still need to get a launch tower, altimeter and ejection system before its ready to take a motor. I am looking at using the Hypertek hybrid motor system, should be fun!
Friday 31st December 1999 - Only launched once this year and didn't go to any launch events. Although I had intended to goto LARGS this year, I was changing job at the time and didn't get it organised. Oh well, Y2K bug willing, I go next year.
Wednesday 30th December 1998 - Well I did launch in
'98 but not much. Im currently on annual leave over the xmas/new year break
and will have to sort out this website! I have some video of the launches from
this year which I will have to track down - and also get round to putting into
avi or mpeg format to be displayed here. Re-started work on the X-1 project
so hopefully I should have something to fly around Feb/March time.
Sunday 13th April 1997 - Travelled all the way up to the Midlands
for the THRUST launch day. Didn't fly anything, but saw my first high power launch.
Someone launched a home built scaled Patriot with *19* estes Ds. Six of them didnt
light but it was still quite impressive, with a big bright exhaust. The HPR launches
consisted of an H and an I, both quite loud and very impressive. The site is
quite easy to find from the map and instructions on their
website
and will also host the UKRA '97 launch weekend from 21st-23rd June. There is
a hybrid engined rocket going to be launched, kewl!
Saturday 5th April 1997 - Too damn windy! It was blowing something like a force
nine gale when I arrived at the HART launch site. Peter was packing up to leave, but
they had launched earlier ( and recovered ! ).
Saturday 15th March 1997 - Attended my first organised club
launch day. The Hornchurch Airfield Rocket Team fly from a site called stubbers which
has a couple of nasty rocket eating lakes very nearby! It was a good day, if a bit windy.
Saturday 8th March 1997 - Finally got round to building the Astrocam I bought last month,
now awating a clear launch day.
Saturday 14th December 1996 - Another clear day! Clear
skies, no wind but quite cold. Managed to find a bigger launch area, on
Eastbourne downs. Unfortunately it was a bit windy and VERY
cold. I launched my Patriot twice, once with a remaining B4-4 and then with
a C5-3. It REALLY flies with the C5-3!! I tracked it until the parachute
deployed but then I lost sight of it. Managed to find it about 5 minutes
later about 200 metres away. Matt launched his rocket ( not sure of the model )
with a C6-3 but the 'chute got dangled in the fins and it hit the deck a
bit hard, busting a fin. At this point our hands had gone blue and the sun
was going down, so we made a hurried retreat to a warm car. Video footage
available soon.
Thursday 5th December 1996 - I finally got round to
launching my own rocket! An Estes Patriot, using B4-4 engines. I have
both photos of building it, and video footage of the launches. I will
endevour to get them into digital format to brighten up this page, which
is rather sparse at the moment.
